I am using this pump and a $4 diverter valve to replace two other pumps that were each more expensive than this pump. It is driving two water features (a column with about a 4' lift/carry, and a spitter) with power to spare. Outside use only as it is not unusually loud, but not quiet. No fish, just a peaceful landscape option.We had a Sunterra previously. Worked for several seasons.Lime finally caused the motor magnets to seize up.Purchased a luguna pump and returned it. I am using it in a rock fountain with about a 3 foot climb and it moves water very well. I could actually run another feature off it if wanted. Another positive is the long powercord. The negative so far... the packing material was a mess as little specks of styrofoam were everywhere..including inside the unit. It actually took some time to clean up the pump from the packing materials. I understand the need for packing well for shipping, but put the pump itself inside a plastic bag or something. Spending about a half hour to an hour picking out stryo specks from the filter and pump unit isn't fun. Save Your Money   Date Of Review: February 8, 2009 Reviewed by: Amazoner, Panama City, FL USA Who designed this thing? Never got the opportunity to see if the pump worked properly or not. The threaded pipe fitting that provided water output doesn't work with typical PVC/pipe threads. Looks like 3/4" PVC thread. The adapter provided will not fit any hose or piping so you have to adapt something straight out of the box. The provided adapter will screw into a PVC 3/4" bushing, but any 3/4" PVC fitting WILL NOT screw into the pump. I have never seen anything like this. I went to hardware store twice to find proper fittings to properly pump water to water feature and never found the proper fitting to work. Anyone who would come up with such a poorly designed fitting defies me. Gave up and decided to go back to Lowes for a replacement pump like I should have in the first place. Save your money and don't purchase.

Pumps are distinguished by the gallons per hour they produce at one foot of lift or head. All Sunterra pumps are submersible and must be placed in water to function properly. Magnetic Pumps run by electrically charged magnet that causes the impeller to spin and circulate water through the pump. Magnetic drive pumps are environmentally safe, have no coolants and use less energy than direct drive pumps. They come with a built in come pre-filter and therefore can be used in clean or dirty water applications such as a fountain or pond. This Sunterra pump has a built in pre-filter to aid in the water filtration process. Sunterra pumps are 100% water tested have a 25 foot power cord and a two year limited warranty. This pond pump is 450 gallons per hour and has a 10 foot maximum lift.
